Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
