Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
