Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
